    FAQ

    Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a home charging station cost, including installation?
    +
    -
The costs of a charging station at home including installation start at £1,945. This amount includes VAT and applies to a charging station with a 1-phase connection. If you want a more powerful charging station that's connected to a 3-phase connection, you can choose our 11 kW for £2,110 incl. VAT and installation or 22 kW for £2,148 incl. VAT and installation.
What's the best charging station for my home?
    +
    -
The best charging station for your home depends on the type of car you drive. For example, if you have a hybrid car you'll need a less powerful charging station than when you drive a fully electric car. It also depends on your meter cupboard: for a more powerful charging station, you need a 3-phase connection. Converting a 1-phase connection to a 3-phase connection may entail additional (unwanted) costs. Our advisors are happy to give you personal, no-obligation advice to see which charging station suits you and your car.
Can you get a grant for a charging station?
    +
    -
Unfortunately, there are currently no government grants available for home charging stations. Regional financial incentives may be available in your area. You can contact your local council to see if any subsidies are available.
Do you need a 3-phase connection for a charging station?
    +
    -
It's not always necessary to have a 3-phase connection for a home charging station. We install our 7.4kW charging station with a 1-phase connection. If you want to opt for our more powerful charging stations ( 11kW or 22 kW), you will need a 3-phase connection. If you want to invest in a future-proof option and benefit from fast charging, it may be worthwhile to choose a charging station with a 3-phase connection. Our advisors are happy to give you personal, tailored advice.
    How sustainable is electric charging?
    +
    -
Driving an electric car is a lot cleaner than driving a conventional car with a combustion engine. Why? The main reason is that an electric car does not emit CO2 or nitrogen while driving and your particulate matter emissions are significantly reduced. There are still many electric cars that are charged with gray electricity from coal, oil and gas. When you pair a home charging station with rooftop solar panels, you can power your car with clean solar energy and make every journey sustainable.
Which devices are currently compatible with the Soly Brain?
    +
    -
Currently, the Soly Brain can support the following brands of inverters and home batteries: Enphase, Sungrow. SMA, Fronius, SolarEdge, Growatt, Huawei, SMA, Kostal, Fox ESS. The same applies to the following charging station brands: Charge Amps, Easee, EO, go-e, Wall box, Zaptec, Vestel.
Are you able to install a charging station at a property without a driveway?
    +
    -
Unfortunately, we do not currently offer charging stations for homes without their own driveway. This is due to the connection of the house to the road, which creates a technically complicated situation. That is why we only offer charging stations that can be installed on private property.
Is my meter cupboard suitable for a Soly charging station?
    +
    -
Your meter cupboard is often suitable for a Soly charging station. The Soly charging station is suitable for both a 1-phase (max. 3.6 kW) and a 3-phase (max. 22 kW) meter cupboard. If necessary, the meter box can be adjusted or reinforced to meet the requirements of the specific charging station installation.
Can every car be charged with the Soly charging station?
    +
    -
Yes, the battery of any type of electric car can be charged with the Soly charging station. The wallbox pulsar pro uses a 5 meter cable type 2 connection. For cars with a type 1 connection, the adapter cable must be purchased yourself.
Can a normal electrician install an EV charger?

Can you install an EV charger by yourself?

Do you need to notify the DNO when installing an EV charger?

    Tips

What should you look out for when buying a charging station?

✓ View the connection in your meter cupboard: 1-phase or 3-phase connection
You need a 1-phase or 3-phase connection for your charging station. A 3-phase connection is necessary for faster charging. If you don’t have one, ask your network operator to upgrade your meter box. A 3-phase connection offers faster charging and a higher capacity, which are major benefits.

✓ Install as a charging station or wallbox
When buying a charging station, consider the location and installation. Some charging stations mount on the ground, while others can be wall-mounted. Depending on where you want it, like your garage or driveway, one option may suit you better. The Soly charging station can be mounted on a wall or pole, making it a flexible wallbox choice.

✓ Charging via fixed cable or via a charging station with socket
You can choose between charging stations with a fixed cable or one with a socket. Each has its pros and cons. A fixed cable is quick and easy to use, but it can look messy in your driveway or garage. Also, the cable may not fit every car. A socket charging station avoids these issues. Plus, you can pair a station with solar panels, allowing you to use sustainable energy to charge your car – good for the environment and your wallet.

Curious about how a charging station works? Generally, charging starts automatically when the car is connected and stops when the battery is full.
